Now I was ALL for this idea but, after reading what x_X and n0vo said on discourse, I kind of am having mixed feelings. They both make pretty good points against having the eBook library. But, I do agree with some/most of them. So, I think we should have a more in-depth discussion about this rather than just voting yes/no.
I DO believe that a user can learn many things from an eBook unlike n0vo's view. I have read a few decent eBooks that have helped me 'along my path'. No, you are not going to be a master or super l33t from a book, but, its a starting point. Some time that little shove that a book can give you is a great starting point.
x_X seems worried about us posting the eBooks on discourse. I don't think this was ever planned but I agree, they should be two separate things completely if we decide to go ahead on this. I too don't think discourse should be a place for eBooks. Yes, it 'could' work as an alright platform, but, probably shouldn't.
x_X also brought up the point of DMCA stuff/moderation. Of course we know about this, but, hes got a point. It could get rough. Now, having it behind a login will damn sure cut down on issues but tbh I don't have much experience as far as DMCA requests go and not sure how they work. But, it is a valid issue we have to be aware of.
Now the tough one.. The opinion based argument..
You know, I was all for this eBook library before reading that. Now I have mixed emotions about it... I disagree with some view points about "you can't learn from an eBook" basically, because I can honestly say that I have. Now, that being said, yes, most libraries (and tbh this one if it happened the second it was brought up) are full of junk that no ones going to read. I never thought about quality rather than quantity like I should have... Hell, my plan was to upload the entire EZ library and call it good... But, I see now that that would have been a huge mistake. However, I stand by the argument that CERTAIN eBooks can be of immense value. Now for x_X's quote from above, I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. I've never had a problem torrenting/downloading random shit before, but... With this community, I think that I would actually be emotionally hurt if thats what it looked like SubHacker was... I mean, we all have put work into building this, and much more work to come. I'm sure none of us want us to be looked at as just a file share community or anything like that.
So.. Final thoughts.. I am actually on the fence about if we should do this or not and if we do HOW we should do it. There are definitely eBooks out there worth reading that should definitely be recommended to users... But, should they be SHARED by us, or just recommended by us? I think more discussion should be had on this topic. Preferably, in a voice chat. I would like to see if we would be able to schedule something like that in order for us to have a more personal conversation about all of this.
